Where on Earth is Spring?

I find myself asking this question every year! You'd think by now I'd be used to the unpredictable Welsh weather, but it always seems to catch me off guard. While the official calendar might say 'Spring', the reality outside my window often feels more like a stubborn winter refusing to let go.

But despite the lingering chill, there are undeniable signs of awakening all around us. The blossom has been particularly spectacular this year, painting the landscape in a breathtaking array of colors. It's one of my absolute favorites to work with, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to any arrangement. However, it does have a mischievous streak – it has a mind of its own and doesn't enjoy being out of water for long!

Tulips, oh the tulips! Every year I forget how utterly captivating they are. Their vibrant colors and elegant forms never fail to amaze me. And did you know they actually continue to grow even after they've been cut? A fascinating little fact that always makes me smile.

Then there are the narcissi, delicate and ethereal, adding a touch of springtime magic to any arrangement. But this year, it's the ranunculi that have truly stolen the show. These exquisite blooms rival even the most beautiful roses in terms of color and form. And this year, we've been exploring the butterfly variety, and oh my! They are truly a sight to behold – a 'dancy flower' indeed!

I could wax lyrical about the wonders of spring for hours, but I'll leave you with two important reminders:

  1. Peony Season is Here! This is the time to rejoice, but also to remember that the peony's reign is fleeting. If you're dreaming of these magnificent blooms in your wedding bouquet, now is the time to plan!

  2. A timeless quote from L.M. Montgomery perfectly captures the essence of spring: "It is always safe to dream of spring. For it is sure to come; and if it be not just as we have pictured it, it will be infinitely sweeter."

So, despite the occasional chilly breeze, let us embrace the beauty of this season and allow ourselves to be inspired by the vibrant colors and the promise of warmer days to come.
